Science fiction is filled with storylines where history takes a different path emerging as an alternate timeline or reality. One oddity of great jazz recordings is that they are never to be repeated as the majority of the content is improvised on the spot. Each performance reflects the exact feeling of the musicians at that moment in time. Certain recordings are well known classics where each solo is known note by note by those who've studied in depth. Yet, the fact that a particular recording has become definitive, was some what a matter of chance. In this hour, we'll listen to some alternate takes of classic recordings and challenge ourselves to step outside of the well ingrained and rediscover the essence of the jazz art form, improvisation. After all, you can never play the same solo twice.
