Sound Ideas #91 - Jazz of Canada, eh?
It's well known that jazz coallesced through the amalgation of musical styles found in the United States; but today the reality is that Jazz is an international music. During WWII it was broadcast worldwide as part of the arsenal of freedom and during the Cold War it was State Department cultural exchanges that placed jazz in the limelight in some of the most unlikely locales, and today UNESCO promotes International Jazz Day. With all of this, it's easy to overlook our siblings in the Great White North who have produced a bevy of jazz talent, albeit perhaps with a bit of an accent. In this hour we will explore some of the great Canadian jazz plyers of the past several decades. OK, eh?
